Ireland finished in 12th place with 35 points at the second of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest semi-finals, finishing 17 points behind the country that finished in 10th place, Slovenia. The result of Semi Final 2 read as follows: 1. Austria 169, 2. Romania 125, 3. Finland 97, 4. Switzerland 92, 5. Belarus 87, 6. Norway 77, 7. Greece 74, 8. Poland 70, 9. Malta 63, 10. Slovenia 52, 11. Lithuania 36, 12. Ireland 35, 13. FYR Macedonia 33, 14. Israel 19, 15. Georgia 15.
Ireland won points from 11 of the 17 (other) countries that could vote in this semi-final – the other 14 semi-finalists and the three Big 5 countries that voted in this semi-final (United Kingdom, Germany and Italy). But Ireland failed to win any of the big points (8, 10, 12) from any of these countries.
The biggest number of points (7 points) awarded to Ireland came from FYR Macedonia, whose vote was 100% based on their jury vote. Ireland won 5 points from Poland and from The United Kingdom; Ireland finished 4th in The United Kingdom televote but a low 11th place ranking by the United Kingdom voting jury restricted the number of points won by Ireland from The United Kingdom. 4 points were awarded to Ireland by Austria and Malta, while Ireland took 2 points from Greece and Romania and 1 point from Israel, Slovenia and Switzerland.
No points were awarded to Ireland by Belarus, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Italy and Lithuania.
Had the result of Semi Final 2 been solely based on jury voting, the result would have read as follows:
1. Austria 138, 2. Finland 117, 3. Malta 113, 4. Norway 100, 5. Romania 93, 6. Belarus 71, 7. FYR Macedonia 70, 8. Slovenia 60, 9. Greece 52, 10. Switzerland 51, 11. Lithuania 41, 12. Poland 40, 13J. Georgia/Ireland 33 , 15. Israel 32.
Had the result of Semi Final 2 been solely based on televoting/the public vote, the result would have read as follows (note that the televotes in FYR Macedonia and Georgia were not used due to technical issues or insufficient number of votes – their jury votes would have been used instead in this instance):
1. Austria 165, 2. Poland 122, 3. Romania 112, 4J. Greece/Switzerland 102, 6. Belarus 83, 7. Finland 72, 8. Norway 53, 9. Slovenia 51, 10. Ireland 42, 11. Lithuania 40, 12. FYR Macedonia 35, 13. Israel 25, 14. Georgia 23, 15. Malta 17.
Had the Semi Final 2 result been solely based on the televote, Ireland would have qualified for the Final (just narrowly ahead of Lithuania) in place of Malta.
If the Semi Final 2 result had been solely based on the jury vote, then FYR Macedonia would have made the Final in place of Poland. The Irish televote in this semi-final was won by Poland, but Poland ultimately only took 2 points off Ireland in this semi-final as their entry was ranked in last place (14th) by the Irish jury. (In a similar vein, the Irish televote in the Final was won by Poland, but Poland failed to take any points off Ireland in the final as their entry was ranked in last place (26th) by the Irish jury.
Lithuania finished 2nd in the Irish televote, after Poland, followed by Austria in 3rd place and Romania in 4th place.
Austria won the Irish jury vote in this semi-final, with Norway being ranked in 2nd place by the Irish jury, followed by Finland (3rd ranked) and Malta (4th ranked).
